You may opt in when you check in for your annual mammogram. There is an out-of-pocket cost of $49, which is not covered by insurance. At this time, we are offering this risk assessment at our Conroe and Montgomery center locations.
The new personalized risk score measures your one-year risk of developing breast cancer. A sophisticated Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithm computes your score, which is based on results from an AI analysis of your mammogram, your age and your breast density. In tests, the personalized risk score has been significantly more accurate than previous models and has helped identify cancers in very early stages.
A low score is good news. This result means your risk of developing breast cancer is lower than the general population. However, a low score does NOT mean you should skip your annual mammogram. You maximize your chances of detecting cancer early by having your annual mammogram and performing monthly self-exams. Our goal at Solis Mammography is to find cancer at the earliest stage possible for all our patients.
A general risk assessment means you have the same short-term risk of developing breast cancer as the general population.
A moderate risk assessment means you have a higher short-term risk of developing breast cancer than the general population. If you are in this risk category, we will walk you through the steps you can take for greater peace of mind, but a moderate risk is not a cause for concern.
A high-risk assessment means your short-term risk of developing breast cancer is higher than the general population. It is very important for you to continue your annual mammograms and monthly breast self-exams. There are additional imaging exams that we will recommend for you to discuss with your doctor.
No. The findings from your annual mammogram, which we use to calculate your personalized risk score, can change every year. We recommend having your risk score calculated every year with your annual mammogram.
